Some Words About Picking New Products
We are always looking for unique and cool products that are functional and durable. You will not find fads at Aaron's Bicycle Repair. No scooters, mini bikes, hulahoops, etc. Just everything bike.
Humans basically got the bicycle right, right off the bat. The major revolution in design happened in the 1880s. It left us with enduring designs like the roller chain, the internal gear hub (the same technology is in manual transmission cars) and the biggest: Pnumatic Tires. Speaking of tires, If you come into our shop and tell us who invented the inner tube, we will give you one, FREE! You choose the size of course. Incidently, the diamond shape frame came out of that era also. Also called the Safety Frame it is still the same today. If you would like to learn more about bicycle history, we have many books in our Library on the subject. There are also links on our Useful Links page.
Cool independent bike shops are the backbone of the Bicycle Industry. It is where all the major developments happen. The people who design revolutionary product often got their start in a bike shop. We strive to carry on the tradition. In that spirit we have hired Val, former owner of Bikesmith in Wallingford. Val is really fun to talk to. He is a Master Bicycle Mechanic, but his official title is Troubleshooter.

We have aquired all of the late Bikesmith's internally geared and Sturmey Archer hub parts. Brands include Sturmey Archer, Shimano, Bendix, SRAM and Sachs to name a few. Come by for a rebuild or replacement parts. Our inventory is extensive. Ask for either Val or Aaron to help you.
We carry almost every part you will find in the Rivendell Catalog, plus many you won't find. We belive in selling you replacement parts and accessories that are functional rather than trendy. You won't find any carbon fiber crap here! Sure we can special order it for you, but you might want to hear what we have to say about it first. If you don't that is also fine, but there is no warranty on carbon fiber or other 'plastic parts'. There are plenty of 'carbon imprenated nylon' parts that we use like SRAM Gripshifters. We just wish they made them out of aluminum. Then they would be more repairable and recycleable.

Crank Brothers Egg Beater Pedal
The new Egg Beater pedal has been in testing for a couple of years. It is finally here. The craftsmanship and design is impressive. Bicycling Magazine gave it 5 Chainrings and my suppliers cannot keep it in stock! For cyclocross it is even out performing Time. The cleat has 6 degrees of foat, so you will need to have a Fit Kit R.A.D. Adjustment done. One nice feature is the recessed outboard bearing and rubber dust cap. Most pedals use an aluminum thread-in or hard plastic press-in dust cap. Grind all you want on rocks and you will not damage the bearing or dust cap on these babies. Another feature is the 4 sided entry with step-down, slide forward or backward engagement. The best feature is the price - $129.99

These lights were designed for city riding where streetlights and light pollution light the way. Even on the darkest nights inside the city limits of Seattle you can still find your way. Even in dark places like Schmitz park. If you really need to see the road, get an incandescant bulb light or the new 5 LED light from Cateye.
Seal Skinz Socks or Gloves $29.99
Want dry hands or feet? Then these are the ticket. You can put your hands under water and they will stay perfectly dry! Use these by themselves or as a liner for other gloves. The palm gripper dots make them perfect for outdoor wet work like cleaning out the gutters or washing the car.
It seems in the bike industry there is constantly a new Lube-of-the-Week. Dumonde Tech is not that! This stuff really works great. It is designed for extreme conditions. Rides where your chain is coated with mud. Dumonde Tech works by forming a 'plastic' coating between the moving (wearing) parts of the chain. You apply it to the chain wet, just before a ride and the heat generated while riding turns the lube into a polymer. Your chain will run smooth no mater how much gunk and grime you throw at it. It also works great for commuters because of the long interval between applications. It is not for everyone, as the application process is a little detailed. One drop per link and you MUST start with a perfectly clean and degreased chain.

Kickstand Hoof Made in Seattle! $7.99
Pat. Pend.
This product was an accident. The guy that makes them needed a kickstand extension because his was cut too short. It turned out to make the bike more stable and it looks cool. They look like a horse's hoof. Kind of cool considering the Bicycle is also known as the Iron Horse! They are $7.99 and will last for years (your kickstand probably will break first). The material is called Nylatron and contains Molybdenm. It gives it a nice metalic satin look.
Xtracyle Attachment $349.99 Installed
The Free Radical is a bike extension made by Xtracycle. It converts any 26" wheeled bike into a cargo hauling machine. The handling of the bike is made more stable yet still nimble and manuverable. The added weight is only 10 pounds, yet the bike is capable of carrying 500 pounds! This picture is of our rental bike outfitted with one. Come test ride it FREE today. One note, your bike will need to be fitted with a V-brake for the rear. Cost for a good one with adapter is about $60. If your bike already has V-brakes, no problem.
Ultra Leisure Fleece Headband Made in West Seattle! $10.99
This may seem like a simple product but the details are everything. The stretch seam tape helps keep it snug and the cut out in the back keeps it from riding up on your head when you look up. Your ears will love you for it. It comes in many cool fashion colors and textures. ABR is the ONLY bike shop in the nation to carry this product! I know because Pieter Muller, the owner of Ultra Leisure, is a friend of mine. A very cool guy who makes very cool products. You can find him selling his other fleece clothing at various markets like the Fremont Sunday Market. Let us know if you like these because we are considering selling more of his clothing.
Cool rainbow colored leg bands by Jevelot. They are elastic with Velcro for a comfortable fit. Add some style to your bike geekiness. If you plan on riding at night, however, we recommend the Yellow Racer reflective ones.
